The 5 best value headphones under $200

The mid-range headphone market is in its best shape in a decade. Twenty-eight pairs came through our test bench this quarter — a mix of new releases, quiet refreshes, and two cult favourites that finally became affordable. Five pairs emerged as genuinely strong recommendations under $200. We've ranked them by overall value, not by price.

1. The all-rounder under $150. Active noise cancellation that's 80% as effective as the flagship offerings, 40-hour battery, multipoint Bluetooth that's actually stable, and a comfortable weight distribution. It regularly dips below $130 on our tracker, which is the number where it stops being a compromise and starts being a no-brainer.

2. The audiophile pick at $180. If you mostly listen wired from a decent source, this one sounds dramatically better than anything else in the range. The treble has real extension, the midrange is honest, and there's no artificial bass boost papering over thin drivers. Battery is shorter and ANC is merely fine — it's an intentional trade.

3. The comfort champion at $160. For anyone wearing headphones for six-plus hours, this is the winner and it isn't close. The earpad depth, the clamp force, and the weight over the crown were all clearly tuned by someone who hates headaches. Sound is neutral-warm and the call mic is the best in the test group.

4 and 5 are category-specific picks for gym use (IP rated, secure fit, wireless only) and commuting (fold-flat, case-included, the strongest noise rejection on a plane). Both are solid, but only buy them if you specifically need what they do. For general everyday use the first three cover the bases more honestly.

One outlier we'd normally hesitate to mention: a direct-from-factory listing that routinely sells under $70. We bought three pairs and the quality was consistent, but spare parts don't exist and the cable is glued in. If you break them, they're disposable. That's fine for some buyers; it isn't for most.
